Top 10 sources of leadership training as identified by our conference delegates
For more than 10 years now, around 1,000 leaders in education gather at the Inspiring Leadership Conference to listen to inspirational speakers from academia, sport and business and to gain valuable information which helps them to become better leaders and improve their schools. But what happens during the other 11 months of the year and what sources of leadership training do they use?
At last year’s conference, and as part of our ongoing delegate discussions, we asked conference delegates to identify their top 10 sources of leadership training and insight. In no particular order, here’s what they said
The NAHT
With more than 50,000 members in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, the NAHT provides a wide range of training and information sources for its members including its ‘Leadership Focus’ magazines, and regular CPD-accredited events and training sessions. They have also been a key partner of the Inspiring Leadership Conference for more than 10 years.
Schools Week
Founded in 2014, Schools Week magazine has a clear mission to inform the educational landscape through rigorous investigative journalism and to delve deep into issues at the heart of the sector. It includes news coverage, in-depth investigations, expert opinions, highlights from the week's educational blogs, comprehensive book reviews, and clear explanations of research and policy documents. They will also be our official media partner for next year’s conference after partnering with us for our tenth Inspiring Leadership Conference last year.
Tes
A global education company, Tes supports a community of schools, leaders and teachers, providing innovative education software products, services, content and resources which enable teachers to enhance students' lives through education. Its website and the Tes magazine (established in 1910) provide a host of information, articles and teaching resources.
The Confederation of School Trusts
The Confederation of School Trusts is the national membership organisation and sector body for school trusts in England advocating for, connecting with and supporting executive and governance leaders. It hosts courses, conferences and a range of professional community groups to support knowledge sharing and best practice in specialist areas.
Teacher Tapp
As we’ve all become regular uses of apps during the last decade, it’s not a surprise that one of the top sources of leadership insight and training is the Teacher Tapp app. The Teacher Tapp app asks teachers three questions each day at 3:30pm and then allows teachers to find out how other teachers answered the questions and delivers a daily bullet of professional development. Anyone can download the app, but the survey questions are currently designed for those who work in a school in England, whether state or private.
ASCL
The second union on our list, the Association of School and College Leaders (ASCL) is a professional association and trade union for school, college and trust leaders. It supports more than 25,000 leaders of primary, secondary and post-16 education from across the UK, and provides help and advice on a wide range of topics including leadership and hosts regular teacher events.
The Ambition Institute
Specialists in ‘evidence-informed’ professional development for school leaders and teachers, the Ambition Institute is a charity which supports teachers at every stage of their career by providing a diverse range of training programmes which are delivered across the UK.
The Key
Providing guidance, resources and CPD for over half of England’s schools and trusts, The Key provides teachers with everything from need-to-know briefings and factsheets to interactive tools and live leadership classes. Accessible via a range of subscription options, it also provides a range of online and e-learning courses in leadership.
Forum Strategy
As a long-standing, independent membership organisation for executive leaders in academy trusts and charities, Forum Strategy helps these leaders to plan, grow and thrive. Members benefit from being part of a large network of their peers; access to the latest developments from within education and beyond via regular briefings; a huge range of online resources including articles, podcasts and videos; and in-person and online events.
The Inspiring Leadership website
Last but by no means least, we’re proud that our delegates named the Inspiring Leadership website as key source of information and insight around leadership. Visit our site over the coming months as we add for information about keynotes, workshop sessions and interviews with industry leaders.
