Dex Hunter-Torricke
Dex Hunter-Torricke has worked with some of the world's highest-profile leaders and organisations, steering their communications and helping to shape their influence. He has worked as a speechwriter and adviser for Larry Page and Sergei Brin, Mark Zuckerberg, and Elon Musk's SpaceX. He served as Head of Global Communications & Marketing at Google DeepMind, the UK-founded AI business applying technologies for public benefit and scientific discovery, before launching the Center for Tomorrow, a nonprofit focused on AI governance and preparing for the technology’s wide-ranging impact.
Dex examines the intersection of technology, government and society, drawing on two decades working inside major tech companies. He explores how AI and advanced technologies are reshaping economies, professions, and geopolitical relationships, addressing both the transformative potential and the significant, sometimes underestimated risks. From mass job displacement and environmental impact to questions of democratic governance and institutional preparedness, he considers how societies can navigate the largest technological and economic transition in history. He reflects on the responsibilities of leaders in all sectors, the need for coordinated policy responses, and the gap between industry narratives and lived realities.
Starting his career as a speechwriter in the office of UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon, Dex then moved to Google, working with the company's founders and other senior leaders. He joined Facebook, serving as personal speechwriter to Mark Zuckerberg and becoming closely involved in projects including widening internet access to some of the poorest and most remote parts of the world. He then led communications for SpaceX before returning to the UK as a director at the global communications consultancy Brunswick Group, working with their technology clients. He also served as Head of Communications at The Oversight Board, the body overseeing content and moderation at Meta.
Drawing from his experience advising companies like Google, Meta and SpaceX, Dex offers insights into how these organisations operate, innovate, communicate, manage reputation and develop leadership strategies. Through his Center for Tomorrow, Dex is convening policymakers, business leaders and civil society to develop practical solutions for managing AI's impact on jobs, geopolitics, human rights and liberal democracy. Alongside other roles, he is also a Policy Fellow at Fathom, the influential AI research organisation.
