Leading the development of Durable Skills: Culture, Challenge and Impact

04 Jun 2026

As leaders, we know that preparing young people for the future goes far beyond achieving qualifications. This workshop explores how developing durable skills such as communication, collaboration and resilience must be a core priority  and how creating a genuine sense of belonging within our learning environments provides the essential foundation for this.

In an increasingly complex landscape shaped by factors such as social media, reduced face-to-face interaction, and rising levels of anxiety enabling these skills is becoming more challenging. Moving beyond simply teaching them, this session focuses on how leaders can embed durable skills through a supportive, values-driven culture that helps students apply them in meaningful ways.  By doing so, schools can strengthen personal development for both students and staff, while also meeting wider expectations, including those of Ofsted, more effectively.

The key takeaway for leadership teams is clear: when students feel that they truly belong and matter, they are far more likely to develop the confidence to communicate, collaborate, adapt and succeed beyond the classroom.
